I Am The Sea Now

I Am The Sea Now

By Jennifer Cross

I am the sea now
I’ve always wanted to be
Just you and me
The sea

The water and my skin are one
The cold makes my limbs go numb
The drowning makes me free
I’ve won now

I’ll beckon others come in
To share in weightless sin
The stinging of seawater
Washing clean what was always held in.

Arms and legs turn to shadows
My mind degrades into brine
Memories cemented to the hulls of ships
The last of the bodies divine.

I’ve found my way out
Disappearing in the deep
A faint crying voice in the distance
A legend floating up as I sink
